![]() ![]() I've been given upgrade pricing every year for the next V Collection, and I think it's always been around $100. I know you can use the macros in AL, but haven't really needed to since I don't perform with it. I haven't looked at the macros of the Analog Lab since if I need to adjust a parameter I jump into the synth itself. Like if a sound it too harsh I can jump in and adjust the filter cutoff or an lfo rate or whatever. I really like it for the instruments and presets it came with and I really like that I can delve into the actual instruments to modify any parameter I want. That being said I ended up picking up the V Collection 6 when it was on sale for $250 just before 7 came out. They keep updating it and I enjoy that I haven't had to pay for any upgrades for it. I picked up Pigments when it was released for $80 and I agree that it's really amazing and super flexible. Clearly one is much more expensive than the other but it really depends on if you personally want to get into learning all the synth interfaces to make more and better changes to the presets or an init patch Is it overkill? It depends on you and your plans. So both have presets but VC has many more, and is "deeper" in the sense that once you spend time to learn to use the different emulatorsr in v collection you will be able to produce many more sounds or even changes to presets to get "the thing" you want in that situation. The flipside of that is that you will have to learn the synths themselves, which takes time, so V Collection is going to be something you get increasing rewards from as you take the time to learn each synth that interests you. V Collection includes many more presets, and also allows you to edit the entire patch in the proper synth interface. The macro knobs may change multiple settings at the same time, and are predetermined by arturia. Each preset in AL will have 4-5 macro knobs which will allow you to mess a bit with the sound, but you won't be able to go into the interface for the synth and make precise changes.
